Understanding Backup Coverage
Every doula needs backup coverage. When you're at a birth and another client goes into labor, your backup doula can step in. Here's how our backup system works:
1For Solo Doulas (Nest/Nurture)
- Invite other doulas to be your backup
- Your backups create their own free accounts
- Share specific clients for coverage
- Backups get view-only access to shared clients
Nurture: 2 backups included, +$5/mo for additional
2For Teams & Agencies (Circle/Village)
- In-House Backups: Assign team members as backups for each other (included with team seats)
- Partner Backups: Partner with doulas from other agencies for additional coverage

Common questions
Can a solo doula start on the free plan?
Yes. Nest includes up to 5 active clients, 2 contract templates, invoicing, booking links, and 1 backup relationship.
What can a backup doula access?
Partner backups can view coverage details for clients you specifically share, including contact details, due dates, and birth preferences. They can also view shared notes when you grant that permission. They cannot access contracts or payments.
Can I start without moving my entire practice?
Yes. Add one client or workflow first, then move the rest when it is useful. Mumzie does not require a full-practice migration to get started.
What payment fees apply?
Nest has a 3.5% Mumzie platform fee on invoice payments. Paid plans have a 0% Mumzie platform fee. Stripe processing fees are separate.
Can I change plans later?
Upgrade from Mumzie's billing settings, or manage downgrades and cancellation through the billing portal.
